Where does my data go?

Privacy concerns regarding E-Mail are addressed in the E-Mail Terms Of Use document. For those who prefer, the short version is that unless you have previously setup a PKI (or similar) method for the secure delivery of your messages to UDig NY, Inc., you will consider all e-mail to be public. “Confidentiality Notices” are irrelevant.

Privacy regarding UDigNY.org

UDig NY, Inc. maintains the usual plethora of webserver logs. It includes but is not limited to the pages that were viewed, the viewer’s IP address, and any “browser tags” configured by the user.

Cookies are used to track www session state; these txt files persist for the length of the user’s visit, and are intended to be automatically discarded immediately after. At this point in time, UDig NY, Inc. should not place any persistent cookies on a visitor’s machine (and if it does, notify [email protected])

Privacy regarding Exactix.UDigNY.org

UDig NY’s Exactix program allows excavators to send stake-out requests to utilities. As the purpose of this program is to send these stake-out requests to these utilities, users should expect these utilities will receive any and all information provided in each request.

Privacy regarding Location Requests in general

UDig NY, Inc. exists to allow excavators to send Location Requests to utilities. As the purpose of making a Location Request is to send it to these utilities, users should expect these utilities will receive any and all information provided in each request.

With the exception of what is required to facilitate the stake-out request process (above), UDig NY, Inc. does not sell, lease, or otherwise “give out” the email, phone, or mailing addresses of our users. UDig NY, Inc. may occasionally use such information itself, for the purpose of furthering the mission of UDig NY, Inc.; examples would include newsletters, free breakfast invitations, wall calendars, or other uses that directly relate to damage prevention.

UDig NY, Inc. may release and or produce data indicating if a specific excavation may have had a corresponding Location Request, along with any candidate Location Requests that might be the actual Location Request in question. Typically this data is produced at the request of the excavator, a member utility, their agent, or other entity when a damaged facility is being investigated.

Privacy regarding telephony assets

Expect all telephone communications made to or originating from UDig NY, Inc. to be recorded. Expect all telephone communications made to or originating from UDig NY, Inc. to be public.

The majority of telephone conversations at UDig NY, Inc. are, in fact, recorded. These recordings are routinely reviewed for quality of service, and any call might be used at any time for training on a particular topic.

Likewise, specific recordings can be requested by the excavator, a member utility, their agent, or other entity when a damaged facility is being investigated.
